Thank you so much for this brilliant program!

I just bought one of these devices just for funs, when much to my dismay, I discovered that you couldn't program messages in on the device itself, as I had been lead to believe... I'd need to install some random program written for windows

I first turned to Wine, but decided against it in favor of looking for a native solution. my package manager turned up nothing, but Google brought me right to this page. I utilized your Debian binary repositories (I'm actually running Ubuntu, but it still worked fine...), installed it and it worked flawlessly. I didn't have to set any udev rules, but that may be due to me running several test systems in virtualbox, and the permissions already being set up so virtualbox can use USB devices (since the permissions group was set to vboxusers for me at least).

Thanks once again! Also, for the benefit of others, here's my relevent specs:

OS:
Ubuntu 10.04 (kernel linux-2.6.23-24-generic-x86_64)

USB Badge (as listed when plugging it in):
generic-usb 0003:04D9:E002.000A: hiddev97,hidraw6: USB HID v1.10 Device [FURI KEYSHINE USB LED Badge]

As listed in lsusb:
ID 04d9:e002 Holtek Semiconductor, Inc.

I am using epsxe on Ubuntu 10.04 32bit. How would I run psx-gs in gdb when epsxe has no debug symbols? Can I call it directly from command line? It compiled just fine, but segfaults as soon as I click configure in epsxe's Config Video screen with 'PSX-GS 1.0' selected. Not sure if it makes a difference, but I am using the pae kernel. I tried with CFLAGS '-O0 -march=i386', but had no CFLAGS set the first time. System specs: Core2Duo 3.06GHz, 8GB RAM - I normally run x86_64, but installed a 32 bit system on a seperate partition just for PSX emu. I have compiling experience from running LFS, but never coded past hello world or run a debugger. Thanks!

Wow, I didn't expect you to respond Tim. I just wrote that as a sort of heads up or something. But you responded.. on the very same day no less (and I left you hanging, for like a month sorry about that)

I run 'gdb epsxe' then 'run', but when opening a dialog the parent hangs and dialog doesn't show up (gdb says "Cannot find new threads: generic error"), can't 'continue' either. So I cannot debug psx-gs running.

This is probably just an issue with my computer (googling shows no one else seems to be having the same type of issue). Installing epsxe required a bunch of hacks. Those hacks might be causing trouble now.

Cool. Just picked one of these up on a whim at Microcenter myself, and felt sure that someone would have built Linux support. You are that person (and thus, a GENIUS)

Couple of thoughts.

1) make the udev rule a file in the .deb/rpm so that it gets installed with the package and no manual editing of additional files is needed. Right now, it fails silently on Ubuntu 10.04 due to permissions, until I went ahead and created the udev rule.
2) would be useful to have a cmdline utility as well as the GUI version. "what if" I wanted to plug this in to a headless system?

Actually I originally thought I might be able to use this as a cheap way of displaying alerts at my desk machine. I'm now wondering if it will always say USB(.) when plugged in, and only display one of the programmable messages when disconnected? That would defeat the object of that idea, I guess.

    Hi,

thx for the great plugin. Linux ver. of epsxe lacked cheats, so for example it was impossible to enable hidden robots in gundam battle assault 2 I hope it will be possible soon thanks to you, but for now like many others above I'm getting this segmentation fault error. I'm using Mint 9, but I'm having the same issue on another computer with ubuntu 10.04 (when i'm using either the pre-compiled plugin or DIY one )
epsxe crashes when clicking the configure or test buttons in the video plugin selection dialog (running a game directly after selecting psx-gs crashes too).
The files are in the correct place:
user@machine:~$ file $HOME/.epsxe/cfg/gsconfig
/home/user/.epsxe/cfg/gsconfig: ELF 32-bit LSB executable, Intel 80386, version 1 (SYSV), dynamically linked (uses shared libs), for GNU/Linux 2.6.9, stripped
user@machine:~$ file $HOME/.epsxe/plugins/libGS.so
/home/user/.epsxe/plugins/libGS.so: ELF 32-bit LSB shared object, Intel 80386, version 1 (SYSV), dynamically linked, not stripped
I'm running Ubuntu 10.04.
Anyways, thanks for coding this Tim. I appreciate the effort

i definitely agree that the best is to perform a test with a more common settings. no use in benchmarking php by removing all the loaded libraries/modules.

it would also be more interesting to see an up to date benchmark after the corrections and maybe a bit more intensive code.

What I think would be interesting is to generate 100,000 random numbers or more and then use those numbers for each language and each paradigm possible to perform a quicksort. I tried Googling around to see if anyone has done that and posted nice looking graphs for it, but I didn't find any. (I would like to use it for a language presentation that I have tomorrow; not enough time to do it myself )
but nothing on lsusb

So i tried your software anyway and got:
It seems that this plugin does not even work with epsxe 1.6.0, at least not with my setup. As soon as I select PSX-GS 1.0 and hit configure, epsxe just crashes.

Thanks for making this open source. I'll see what I can do about fixing it up so it works with pcsx-df and pscx, and maybe even epsxe, and then distributing an update for everybody else. No promises.
